| | | ATO Serves Up A Slice of America at the Culinary Festival in Vladivostok The U.S. Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) participated in the Fifth Annual Primorskiy Culinary Festival held September 12-13, 2008 in Vladivostok. The target audience for the event is the hospitality industry and is organized by “Anons” Restaurant Association.
Consul General Tom Armbruster greeted participants and organizers at the opening ceremony and accepted a plaque of appreciation awarded to the ATO for long-term cooperation and reliable support for the hospitality industry.
During the Festival, attendees visited the ATO’s informational booth where they could find information about U.S. food products, suppliers serving the Russian Far East (RFE), and innovative recipes.
“American Products School” master-class has become a highlight and a sought-after session at the Festival. This year, a famous Primorskiy Chef, Sergei Klimenko, showed his mastery in cooking dishes with turkey. Then he turned his efforts toward making sinfully delicious desserts such as cheesecakes, croissants, and cinnamon buns. Each of these U.S. products are recent additions to the portfolio of products offered by RFE restaurant suppliers.
Another new edition to the market are J.J. Scott wines from California. Chef Klimenko used J.J. Scott’s Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel varietals in the recipes. The chef used California grapes and almonds and pears from the Northwest in creating his masterpieces.
The ATO presented experts including Galina Kochubeeva of the U.S. Meat Export Federation, Marina Dakhnova of Tyson Foods, and John Toaspern of the U.S. Potato Board. Sabrina Yin, a Chef hired by the U.S. Meat Export Federation presented a master classe and seminar devoted to American beef and pork.
During the two-day festival drew a crowd of more than 5000 guests, 4000 of which were hospitality industry professionals. Approximately 70 percent of attendees were from Vladivostok, 20 percent were from the Primorskiy Region and 10% were from elsewhere in the Russian Far East.
